Good Habits for Kids
So, every day, it felt like I kept saying the same things…
Pick up your shoes.
Brush your teeth.
No you can’t have your 6th pack of fruit snacks.
I had been forming some of my own habits lately too, so I decided why the heck not?
Kids need to form good habits too.
It’s super easy to make this habit tracker, and the BEST part is, it’s completely customizable. As your kiddo grows and forms these new habits, you can wipe off… and start working towards something else!
The trick is to keep it fun, and consistently bring up when they’ve earned a pin.
We’re shaping our littles.
They learn everything from us (well, most everything..), and so let’s show them that if you work at something consistently, you can make it a habit.
Teach them, there are good habits and bad habits. Some of that is subjective, of course. But for the most part everyone should agree that for young kids, the ones I’ve chosen to start with are pretty much understood.
The habits we’re starting with are:
Choosing a healthy snack
Brushing your teeth
No screen time
Doing or helping with a chore
Daily box (find more on that here)
I started with a black magnet board like this one.
Then, all you need is chalk markers - we do a TON of crafts, so we won’t only be using them for this diy project! But I found these reasonably priced ones on Amazon.
Lastly, I needed some little magnets, and I feel like you can get some really cute ones… but I got these to keep it simple and not take away from the board!
Here’s what we ended up with again!
The girls are pretty excited about it, and so far, the tokens are building up.
Oh, don’t forget, you can build a reward system around this habit tracker if you’re using positive reinforcement! We’re going to use a treasure box with small, low value toys or items so each time they reach 10 pins or 10 good habit choices, they get to visit the treasure box!
I’ll post links to the treasure box too.
Good luck, and hope this helps!
